Spring is finally here in full force! I know because the pollen has seemed to over taken the air, except for the smell of bbq smoke. We just got back from visiting our friends at the High On The Hog BBQ contest in Winchester, TN. It is one of our favorite events to compete in but with our pending adoption were focusing on, we will be doing only a few events this year to focus on catering to raise the needed funds for our adoption to the Ukraine- as of today we finally finished all of our paper work !!! Back in 2005 I remember the first year of cooking this contest and two things happened- 1. The wind and cold was almost unbearable- our tent was about ready to fly away 2. A knife closed on to the end of my thumb - that really hurt!!
Some of you might have read or heard on the news about the woman in Shelbyville- Torrey Hansen who sent back her adopted son to Russia. A few months ago we started having people over on Sundays to just cook bbq and enjoy the company of new friends from Church. I wish I could have known the Hansen family to have invited them over and really talked to them about what they were going thru that there is always hope and that they just needed to talk to others about what they were going thru. But have we as a society got so closed off that we are loners that we can't ask for help to reach out to our community? Were all guilty of being in our own world. So if your reading this, who do you know that you could invite over for a BBQ and make a difference in their life? The truth is one person can make a difference. With the whole world converged on Shelbyville, TN I thought of taking some bbq for the Russian news crews, what better way to warm up relations with some good ole Q!
